Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:   Per pale Azure and Gules, radiating to chief from a cloud Argent a lightning flash barbed between two lightning flashes, a bordure diminished Or; all within a bordure per saltire Tenn, of the second, of the first and Buff.  Attached around the sides and bottom of the shield is a Red scroll inscribed "CYCLONE WARRIORS in Gold letters.

Symbolism
The blue and scarlet of the shield refer to the colors of the 38th Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia.  The cloud with three lightning flashes underscores the might of the Division in past wars and alludes to the original Division distinctive unit insignia during World War II.  The border of the shield is multicolored as follows:  orange indicates Signal units and the former 138th Signal Battalion; buff denotes Quartermaster and the Division Support Command; scarlet indicates Field Artillery and the 38th Division Artillery; and blue underscores Military Intelligence and the 636th Military Intelligence Battalion.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 30 September 2010.
